If your van has copped a knock on a post, or an overhanging roof or branch, it can easily damage the aluminium sheeting on the sides of the van. Generally caravan aluminium sheeting is less than 1.0mm thick and it doesn't take too much to damage it.
We are regularly carrying our caravan resheeting in Toowoomba QLD. This involves removing as many sheets as required to access the damaged area. As the side sheets are installed from the top down, it is necessary to remove the sheets from the bottom up until you reach the damaged sheet, and then replace all removed sheets.
As part of our resheeting process, we carry out a full framing analysis and evaluation to find areas of water ingress, frame deterioration and strength compromise. We remove and rebuild areas of the framing that have issues to give your van a strong foundation for future travels.
It is suprising to many of our customers who see their van with the sheets off, how much water has entered the frame. Much of the time, this water damage is not visible inside or outside the van. It can take many months for water damage to appear inside. By this time, the framing is usually considerably compromised and requires a fair bit of rebuilding.
Many customers also choose to do certain upgrades during this caravan resheeting process. As most electrical wiring is run inside the framing of a caravan, it is a good opportunity to install new power points, run 12v lights, external fittings like picnic tables or awnings, or upgrade the running lights to maintenance free LED lights.
So, if your van has suffered damage through an accident or hail, give the team here at the RV Service Centre and call and we'll get your van looking like new.
