Aluminium clad caravans can easily suffer considerable damage during a hail storm. Even in relatively minor hail, entire sides of your van can be dinted. We often find customers are unaware of the damage for many weeks or even months. Sometimes it takes the light to be at just the right angle to see the dents.

Generally, while hail damage doesn't cause structual issues to the caravan, it severely reduces resale value as they simply look dented. The goods news is, most insurance companies cover hail damage on caravans, and it is a common repair process. 

The biggest tip I can give you, is to thoroughly check all sides and roof of your van after a hail storm – even if it doesn't look damaged. Get a torch, and shine it along (ie, almost parallel to) the sides/roof of the van, as this will help show up any dents.

Caravan Hail Damage Repair Process

All the fittings are removed from the damaged side(s) of the van. This includes the corner mould, lights, windows, doors, air conditioners etc. 

The sides of caravans must be sheeted from the top down. Therefore, we find the highest damaged sheet and pull them off up to that point. It is generally not possible to preserve removed sheets. New sheets are installed, then fittings put back on.

Roof sheeting is much the same, but can normally be resheeted from either direction.

There are a large range of different aluminium cladding profiles. They tend to be brand specific. There are deep and shallow profiles, as well as stucco or smooth finishes. There are a few different aluminium suppliers who all have slightly different profiles setup. So while two caravans with a smooth, shallow profile sheeting may look the same from a distance, minor variations in the manufacturer's rolling process produce a slightly different sheet. Therefore it is very important to deal with someone who has access to the complete range of profiles from all the suppliers.
